[Prague \u2013 July 10, 2024]\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Decci Group is starting\u00a0the operation of a hybrid energy source of ancillary services (AnS) with the\u00a0largest battery storage in the Czech Republic in the village of Vra\u0148any, in the\u00a0district of M\u011blnik. Energy nest has a total installed\u00a0output of 52,4 MW including\u00a0the battery storage and combines innovative technologies with a\u00a0custom-developed software system\u00a0that stabilizes the transmission network. <\/strong><\/p>

This\u00a0modern energy source flexibly responds to surpluses or deficits in the grid,\u00a0and\u00a0outside of active service, remains in standby mode with a zero-emission\u00a0footprint, eliminating the need for inefficient fuel usage.\u00a0Energy nest is not\u00a0only a flexible and innovative solution, but also an environmentally-friendly\u00a0energy source.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Changes in the energy mix, the\u00a0planned phase-out of conventional energy solutions, and the increasing share of\u00a0renewable\u00a0energies will be a source of instability and fluctuation in the electrical\u00a0grid. Therefore, new sources of ancillary services (AnS) for\u00a0power balance,\u00a0stability, and security of the electrical grid are currently being sought. The\u00a0hybrid energy source, Energy nest,\u00a0with a total current output of 30 MW to the\u00a0grid, represents such a solution by combining gas turbines and battery storage,\u00a0and\u00a0opens a range of possible solutions for providing ancillary services for\u00a0power balance.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cBy 2030, renewable energy\u00a0sources are expected to account for a quarter of electricity production.\u00a0However, these sources are\u00a0unable to provide ancillary services and ensure grid\u00a0stability. On the other hand, coal-fired power plants, which account for nearly\u00a060% of electricity production and ensure grid stability, are scheduled to be\u00a0decommissioned. If we want to maintain a safe and\u00a0stable electrical grid in the\u00a0future, we must look for new sources. Energy nest separates electricity\u00a0production from providing\u00a0ancillary services (AnS) for power balance and\u00a0represents a solution that responds to future energy needs today,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>says\u00a0Darina\u00a0Merdassi, CEO of Decci Group, a.s., and member of the board of E.nest\u00a0Energy a.s., about the project, adding,\u00a0\u201cEnergy nest will\u00a0be able to secure\u00a0ancillary services (AnS) to the same extent as those provided by a 300 MW\u00a0coal-fired power plant, and thus,\u00a0contributing to achieving national climate\u00a0goals.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

An Innovative Energy Solution<\/strong><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The innovative nature of the\u00a0solution lies in the combination of different technologies, specifically gas\u00a0turbines with a total output\u00a0of 32,4 MW technically derived from aircraft\u00a0engines and a battery storage system, which, with an output of 20 MW and a\u00a0capacity of 22 MWh, is the largest in the Czech Republic. The technologies\u00a0communicate with each other using a software\u00a0system, complement each other, and\u00a0eliminate each other\u2019s weaknesses.

Czech Transmission System Operator (\u010cEPS)\u00a0analyses show that the current\u00a0development of the energy sector could lead to a\u00a0dramatic decline in regulatory\u00a0power for providing ancillary services (AnS) for power balance. The hybrid energy\u00a0source can\u00a0provide any combination of ancillary services, namely: Frequency Containment\u00a0Reserve (FCR), automatic Frequency\u00a0Restoration Reserve (aFRR+), or manual Frequency\u00a0Restoration Reserve (mFRR+) up to a total output of 30 MW. It is also\u00a0possible\u00a0to provide any combination of these services that does not exceed the same\u00a0limit. In the future, the extension of\u00a0provided services is available up to\u00a052,4 MW, while using the current technologies.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cThe Energy nest source was\u00a0designed to allow for capacity increase, if needed, or easy expansion with\u00a0other similar hybrid\u00a0systems. It is a modular, scalable, and easily replicable\u00a0solution that, thanks to its container design, occupies only an area of one\u00a0hectare.\u00a0At the same time, it exhibits top availability and reliability parameters. In\u00a0the future, there is also the possibility for the\u00a0facility to produce green\u00a0hydrogen,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0explains Darina Merdassi, highlighting further advantages provided\u00a0by Energy nest.

The construction of the hybrid energy\u00a0source was carried out by Siemens, s.r.o., with the main technology suppliers\u00a0being the\u00a0British company, Centrax Ltd, UK, and the German company, SMA\u00a0Altenso, GmbH. The project also significantly involved Czech\u00a0consulting firms\u00a0Euroenergy, s.r.o, Nano Energies, and OSC, a.s.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Czech Institute of\u00a0Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics (CIIRC), at the Czech Technical University\u00a0(CTU), developed a\u00a0custom software system for the energy project.
